Deja Vu? There’s Been Another Missouri Quake Near Madison

I had to do a double-take to make sure I wasn't seeing the same thing that happened over the weekend. There's been another earthquake between Mark Twain Lake and Moberly, Missouri centered near the town of Madison.

According to the USGS, this quake was slightly larger than the 2.4 earthquake that was registered Saturday. This one was detected as a 2.6 quake centered near Madison, Missouri at approximately 5:10pm Monday night. So far only 1 person has reported feeling it to the USGS. Earthquake Track confirms this 2.6 quake, too.

I now have to ask exactly what is going on? This is a strange place for an earthquake with no known faults in the north-central part of Missouri and far away from quakes that are common near the New Madrid Fault area.

As stated previously, there is no need for alarm as a 2.4 or a 2.6 won't cause any real damage even if it happens directly underneath your feet. However, it's worth stating that earthquakes go up by a factor of 10 with every .1 that's registered. This is definitely a stronger quake than Saturday and attention needs to be paid for what's going on seismically in northeast Missouri right now.
