Sudden Closure: BBQ Chain Ends Operations in Illinois
Well, this was sudden. A national chain famous for their barbeque has suddenly closed the doors of all of their restaurants and that includes their Illinois locations, too.
I just came across this report by USA Today that said Smokey Bones had just made a sudden decision to close their doors. This is confirmed by the official Smokey Bones website which said the following:
"After 27 incredible years, Smokey Bones has officially closed its doors as of Monday, April 27th. This isn't just the end of a restaurant—it's the closing of a chapter filled with shared meals, celebrations, traditions, and countless memories. From first bites to final toasts, you made this place more than just BBQ—you made it home."
This decision to lose means the following Illinois Smokey Bones restaurants are now closed, too.
Springfield, Illinois
Rockford, Illinois
It should be noted that there were reports that the Rockford, Illinois Smokey Bones closed their doors back in January of 2026. There used to be a ghost kitchen operated by Smokey Bones in Chicago, but that closed before the April 30 announcement, too. The USA Today story said that the Springfield, Illinois location employees were only notified this Tuesday that they would be closing their doors. Let's hope all of these workers can find better opportunities quickly as they cope with suddenly being out of a job.
