The NFL announced that Coldplay will be the Super Bowl Halftime Show performers for this year. In the past 20 years, only one country artist has been the headliner for the Super Bowl Halftime Show. Shania Twain performed at halftime of Super Bowl 37 in San Diego.

Since 2003, we have had washed up pop acts, aging rockers, and an appereance from a special guest...hello Janet Jackson's unmentionables! I think it's time to bring country to the main stage. I understand that not everyone likes country, but I also don't like a lot of the pop music that is out now. The point is, you can't satisfy everyone.

Blake Shelton may be the biggest country star right now. He is everywhere. He sells out arenas, he is on the front page of magazines, and he also happens to have the most wins as a coach on the hit television show The Voice. Blake Shelton seems like the obvious choice, he could parade the rest of The Voice coaches on stage and it would fulfill every genre, but Carrie Underwood sings the opening to Sunday Night Football every Sunday before the nationally televised game. Luke Bryan just performed at halftime of the Thanksgiving game in Dallas and the Zac Brown Band is in a new commercial with NFL All-Pro JJ Watt.

After watching the CMAs and seeing Chris Stapleton and Justin Timberlake's performance get outstandering reviews and go viral, I think country music could hold their own as the Super Bowl Halftime Performers. What do you think? Which country artist would best represent the genre as the Super Bowl Halftime Performer?
