According to an article from Fox News, the Secretary of State in Illinois is urging people to stay home and do everything online regarding the DMV. In the article, Fox News says...

"Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias is suggesting a New Year's resolution for Illinois motorists: Ditch the DMV. The Democrat on Thursday announced expanded online services for the "Skip the Line, Do It Online" program to save taxpayers' time and reduce historically long queues at driver and motor vehicles services facilities, which Giannoulias shortens to "DMV." If not via the web, mail and telephone transactions are available..."I’m serious. Don’t come unless you are 100% certain that you need to visit one of our facilities," Giannoulias said at a Chicago news conference."

Will the DMVs disappear?

My gut says this is the beginning of the end for the DMV, would it shock any of us if the state of Illinois decided to start closing facilities down to save money? No, the answer is no it wouldn't. I'm 33 years old, and I am a millennial, but even I like to be able to go into places talk to a person, and have things handled that way. Also, when you do things online they always charge you a fee, so I have a feeling this is all a grand way for the state to save money, close locations, let go of employees, get a bunch of fees from online transactions, and leave a couple of locations scattered throughout the state where people will have to do driving tests and other in-person things.
