Illinois Native Pro Athlete has Horse in 2025 Kentucky Derby
The 2025 Kentucky Derby is Saturday afternoon in Louisville at Churchill Downs. Be on the lookout for Springfield, Illinois native, longtime Major League baseball player Jayson Werth and his Two Eight Racing ownership group (28 was Werth's number in the big leagues).

Jayson has a horse at the Derby for the second year in a row. Last year Werth was at Churchill Downs with “Dornoch”, who finished 10th last year. This year he arrives in an extra sized twenty horse field with longshot “Flying Mowhawk” at 30-1.
Jayson Werth's "Flying Mohawk"
Springfield Illinois’ Werth will have his trademark mane flowing amongst the mint juleps and fancy fascinators Saturday afternoon. Flying Mohawk will be in post position number 11 to start.
Werth’s horse Mohawk has been growing into an intriguing option for those who like to put a little down on a long shot. Flying Mohawk has two wins and two places in six races. With an ability to adapt to different race conditions and scenarios that could be key to a solid and maybe profitable finish.
One of the United States enduring sports traditions, the Kentucky Derby is an event that brings together old and young, international and domestic celebrities and Kentuckiana locals for a celebration of American tradition.
