Illinois Man Goes Full “Griswold” with Christmas Lights Display
Every year it occurs, competitive Christmas lights displays in neighborhoods across the land. Ted Ray in McHenry, Illinois doesn’t bother comparing his work to the neighbors, he looks to Clark W. Griswold as the threshold to meet.
In “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation” Chevy Chase’s character Clark Griswold covers his house in Christmas lights, leading to many bright and comical situations. Ray’s plan each Christmas is to embrace that concept in real life.
Ted Ray considers himself a “Christmas Vacation” super-fan and designs his displays to evoke the scenes from the movie. He even embraces the Griswold “Family Truckster” station wagon too, complete with uprooted tree.
Ray’s house isn’t as big as the Griswold’s but it is legit covered in over 5,000 Christmas lights.
How big of a fan of the Griswold’s is Ted Ray? His children are named Audrey and Russ…Seriously.
Ted did switch from incandescent to LED lights to save money on his electric bill for December.
