There are hundreds of museums in Illinois. A few of them cater to a specific audience of fans of the strange, spooky and disturbing.

One of them sits in the basement of Graveface Records and Oddities in the Bucktown area of Chicago.  Layered with different types of disturbing items, from horror movies and soundtracks to taxidermied animals expressing disdain over being stuffed. The next level gets you to an area with artifacts and pictures from traveling circus bizarre sideshows and cult leaders from days long gone.

Then you level down to Gacy. Owner Ryan Graveface has obtained authentic John Wayne Gacy artifacts from Gacy’s sister that she had preserved. Graveface has recreated Gacy’s prison cell complete with court papers, correspondence from those who reached out to Gacy, and Gacy’s paintings are present too.

Graveface is currently working on exhibit on insane asylums. He has a sister museum in Savannah, Georgia and has plans to someday open a sideshow museum in Gibsonton, Fl. Which, it turns out is where many of the circus performers would spend their off-seasons.

This spectacle isn't the only one of its kind in Illinois. Also in Chicago there is the Medieval Torture Museum downtown. In Alton, Il. there is Troy Taylor's American oddities Museum and in Patoka, Il. there is Nancy's Museum of Horror.
