Do you have one of those new-fangled “Star Shower” laser Christmas light shooter deals? If so, good on you. You’re already more committed to holiday decorating than I.
But if you have one of these things and you live in Quincy, then we might have a little problem here. I’ll explain.

See, the instruction manual that you threw away immediately warns about using these devices within ten nautical miles (or approximately 11.5 miles) of an airport. And as you’re well aware, Quincy Regional Airport is right up the road.

See where I’m going with this? Let’s go to the map!

That giant blue circle has a radius of 11.5 miles and in the center of it is…you guessed it…Quincy Regional Airport. And as you can see, that pretty much covers the whole town.

Fortunately, no one’s going to jail here or anything. The FAA has no specific regulations regarding the Star Shower product, but rather lasers in general. According to Section 91.11 entitled Prohibition On Interference With Crewmembers, “No person may assault, threaten, intimidate, or interfere with a crewmember in the performance of the crewmember’s duties aboard an aircraft being operated.”

So as long as you’re not using your Star Shower for any reason that would otherwise land you on a “No Fly” list, you should be fine. Star Shower reps just suggest that if you ARE within that specified radius, that you point your lasers down a little just to ensure they’re hitting the house and nothing else.
