Historic Big Boy Locomotive coming to Illinois-Missouri
Mark your calendars train enthusiasts for Union Pacific’s massive steam locomotive that will be on tour through out the mid-west starting Aug 28 in Cheyenne, WY.
The Big Boy 4014 will traverse Nebraska and Iowa before being on display in Rochelle, Illinois Sunday Sept 8 from 9:00a-3:00p. With half hour stops following in Illinois at Watseka at 5p on Monday 9/9, Nokomis, Il. At 12:15p before arriving in St. Louis Wednesday Sept 11.
St. Louis is home to Big Boy 4006 housed at the National Museum of Transportation.
Thursday will see the Big Boy 4014 in Desoto, Mo. at 11a for 30 min, in Ironton, Mo. for a half hour at 1:30p before arriving in Poplar Bluff, Mo.
The legendary locomotive will wind through Arkansas, Texas and Oklahoma into October and will stop in Kansas City, Mo. Tuesday October 15 6:45p at Union Station then stay over Wednesday in KC before departing for Kansas, and Colorado arriving back in Cheyenne Oct 23.
The 4014 is one of seven Union Pacific Big Boys that are on display around the country, and was restored in Cheyenne, WY. returning to service for the 150th Anniversary of the completion of the Transcontinental Railroad in 2019.
