As you may have guessed by now, I'm kind of a movie fan. It's just my thing. As such, I spend way too much of my time thinking about movies. Luckily that leads to writing about movies, and here we are. I got curious about what films were not only set here in the Tri-State area, but were the highest ranked on IMDb.

Now the main stipulation was that a significant portion, if not all, of the action has to take place in said state. So while the opening of the 2009 Star Trek film is indeed set in Iowa, it's got the one scene, the rest of the film is predominantly outside our orbit. That doesn't count.

The hardest task was finding a significant amount of quality films set in each state. Illinois has the Chicago spoiler, where a lot of films are set, while Missouri was a gateway to the west, as well as being important during the Civil War, providing good historical backdrop. I was able to narrow things down a bit.

So here are the top ranked films in each state, with a few others.

Illinois

THE STING (1973)- 8.3 rating; Ranked #88 on IMDb's Top 250

Also: Halloween (7.9); The Blues Brothers (7.9)

Iowa

BONNIE AND CLYDE (1967) - 7.9 rating; Not Ranked

Missouri

GONE GIRL - 8.1 rating; Ranked #170 on IMDb's Top 250

*IMDb weights scores based on number of votes, so while Paper Moon has a higher rating, it only has 20,000 votes to Gone Girl's 575,000 votes
