History of the Healing Waters

The legend of these healing waters dates back to the 1880s when a local farmer’s daughter fell ill. Desperate for a cure, he sought help from the community. Locals suggested she drink and bathe in the Opal Spring water, and within weeks, she had fully recovered.

As word of the spring’s healing properties spread, more people flocked to the area to experience it for themselves. In 1912, a hotel was built to accommodate visitors, allowing them to stay longer and enjoy the natural spring waters.

There have been several major guests that have stayed at the hotel including Harry s Truman who stayed in room 200 to take the stress away from the 1948 election, according to Love Exploring.
