Yep...its been 17 years since we've seen these GIANTS...

2021 was supposed to be the year that we all were able to get back to enjoying life and spending time outsides at concerts, fairs, and festivals! Well unfortunately for all of us 2021 is going to be the year of the BUG...As the 17 year cicadas return...

According to an article from the USA Today posted on their Facebook page, we are in for a LOUD Summer as cicadas return. In the Facebook post they say...

"This year will mark the reemergence after 17 years of Brood X, or the Great Eastern Brood, of periodical cicadas – those large, winged, kind of scary-looking but mostly harmless flying insects known for their almost deafening noise."

In the post they say that the Great Eastern Brood of cicadas have a 3 inch wingspan and are about 2 inches in length. To see the map of the states that will be seeing the return of the Great Eastern Brood click here!

Now according to the map only Illinois should see these cicadas, and Quincy is literally as far west as you can go and still be in Illinois, so hopefully that means the impact of these giant cicadas will be minimal on the Tri-States. But if you were planning a trip this summer to a lot of east coast states get ready to bring ear plugs. And not to mention the fact that they are pretty big bugs with 3 inch wingspans, they certainly will be hard to avoid in large parts of the USA.
