George Strait Gets a Little Help From His Friends at Final Nashville Show [Watch]

When George Strait took the stage for a final show in Music City on Friday night (March 21), he made it clear that the cowboy won’t ride away quietly — the King of Country is going out with a bang.

Strait invited guest superstars Sheryl Crow, Kenny Chesney and Eric Church to his stage to help him show Nashville a good time. The evening kicked off with Crow, who played as Strait’s opening act, performing several of her own top hits like ‘Picture’ and ‘Callin’ Me When I’m Lonely.’ The songstress also shared the stage with the legend, blending her voice with his iconic vocals for ‘Here for a Good Time’ and ‘When Did You Stop Loving Me.’ Crow describes the opportunity to be a part of Strait’s last tour one of the highest-ranking moments of her career.

Chesney took the stage with Strait for ‘Amarillo by Morning,’ while the 61-year-old invited Church to join him for ‘Cowboys Like Us.’ Strait also treated fans to old hits, including ‘All My Ex’s Live in Texas,’ ‘The Fireman,’ ‘Check Yes or No’ and ‘Ocean Front Property,’ as well as newer songs ‘Arkansas Dave’ and ‘That’s What Breaking Hearts Do.’

The country music icon has been touring since 1981 and announced his decision to hang up his touring hat in October of 2012.

“It’s been a hard decision for me to make, but as far as the touring goes, I’ve decided that I’m not going to tour anymore after these next two years,” Strait explains. “I kinda always had it in the back of my mind, when I turned 60 it might be the time to start thinking about it … In 2016 I might say, ‘What a dummy,’ you know? And if that’s the case, maybe I’ll reconsider, but at this particular time, I’m pretty sure I won’t.”

Strait’s final concert is scheduled for June 7 in Arlington, Texas. The show sold out within hours of going on sale — the lineup includes special guests Jason Aldean, Kenny Chesney, Eric Church, Vince Gill, Faith Hill, Alan Jackson, Miranda Lambert, Martina McBride and Lee Ann Womack.
