Firefighters in Monroe City responded to a report of a residential fire at 211 Lawn Street shortly after 4 p.m. Sunday.

Monroe City Police Chief Tyler Wheeler reports that, after the blaze was extinguished, fire crews were busy putting out hot spots well into the evening.

Wheeler said the family was not home at the time of the fire. No one was hurt. The home is believed to be a total loss.

An investigation into the cause of the fire will take place Monday.
