All across the Midwest there are ridiculous roadside attractions, and things that small towns build or do to try and attract any sort of tourism to their towns. Well Iowa is one of the corn capitals of the world so it should surprise you to learn that The World's Largest Popcorn Ball is in a small town in Iowa, but what is it?

According to atlasobscura.com the World's Largest Popcorn Ball is 8ft in diameter and 24 feet around, and it is located in the small town of Sac City, Iowa which is located about 2 hours north and west of Des Moines, Iowa. On the website they say...

"The ball of popcorn is believed to weigh around 9,370 pounds...more than 250 volunteers who spent 12 hours and 40 minutes constructing the sculpture. The reconstruction required 900 pounds of popcorn, more than 2,500 pounds of sugar, and 1,400 pounds of syrup."

As far as I can tell from some of the Googling that I have done the Popcorn ball still exists and if you want to see some pictures of the giant ball click here!

To be honest I am all for small towns across the plain states doing stuff like this, even if that weird giant popcorn ball helps bring a couple thousand people a year to your small town, that is better than nothing. And who knows it could be the dollars that those few thousand people spend at a local restaurant that are the dollars to help keep the lights on.

LOOK: Here are the pets banned in each state

Because the regulation of exotic animals is left to states, some organizations, including The Humane Society of the United States, advocate for federal, standardized legislation that would ban owning large cats, bears, primates, and large poisonous snakes as pets.
