Hannibal’s professional theater company called for help, and, as it so often does, the community stepped up.

Bluff City Theater recently announced an adjustment in its 2021 performance schedule. Instead of a full slate of stage productions, the theater this summer will host a series of what Director Joe Anderson describes as cabaret style shows.

This requires an upgrade from the well worn piano presently owned by the theater.

A couple of weeks ago, Anderson set up a GoFundMe page to raise money for a new digital baby grand for the theater.

The announcement was made Friday that their $2,900 fundraising goal had been met and surpassed.

Anderson thanks all who gave, including Dutch Country General Store for its major gift.

Bluff City Theater just wrapped up its first stage production in nearly two years, presenting "Vincent" the last two weekends in the bandstand in Central Park to allow for social distancing.

BCT will present one more stage production this season, with "Trying," the real life story of Judge Francis Biddle, running June 9 through 20.

As was the case with Vincent, this season's stage productions will be free to the public.

Along with the "cabaret style" shows that will grace the BCT stage this summer, the Comedy on the River event that was to have taken place last year will happen, with more information to come.

This spring's Bluff City Theater productions and the fact you can come see them for free could not happen but for the help of The George Riedel Foundation, Independent's Service Company and others.
