An Important Piece of Our Camera Was Destroyed During The Eclipse
Yeah, I know. I saw the warnings about photographing the eclipse and how improperly shooting it could damage your camera. I watched the DIY solar filter videos and all of that with the cereal boxes, aluminum foil, duct tape, and whatever else. I watched this guy fry the guts out of his camera as some sort of teaching opportunity.
I was SO careful!
And I managed to screw it all up.
I mean, don’t get me wrong, I didn’t set the camera ablaze by any means. It didn’t crack or overheat or melt or anything like that. In fact, it works fine. Good as it ever did.
The problem is with the lens cap. Apparently it slipped off the lens and into the parking lot before I even made it to the river. And as things in parking lots tend to do, it was run over (likely by me).
I'm an idiot.
Yes, unfortunately throughout all of those doomsday photography warnings, I missed the chapter about properly securing the lens cap and not running it over with a damn pickup truck.
This is why we can’t have nice things!
