It's been an active week along the New Madrid Fault in Missouri as the area has been hit by 9 different measurable quakes including 1 that was reported felt by hundreds.

Still no reason for alarm, but it's worth mentioning that the New Madrid Fault has been a bit more active than usual with 9 quakes over the past 7 days as the USGS map shows.

The largest quake along the New Madrid Fault this week was early Sunday morning when a 3.1 was reported felt by several hundred people. The shake map shows that nothing was severe, but the shaker was felt as far north as Poplar Bluff.

When I mention there were 9 measurable quakes, please note there were actually a lot more. The University of Memphis website on the New Madrid Fault Network shows the list that have hit that area since February and the number is staggering.

It's worth remembering that there were 10 quakes one week in July, so this is still no reason for any major concern about an imminent event. It's just another check-in on the seismically-active ground we stand on every day to keep track of what it's up to. Very rarely do we get quakes that can actually be felt. The one that happened Sunday morning made this week's shakers worth passing along.
