Thomas Rhett issued a video message to the fans in attendance for his would-be Thursday night concert at the Illinois State Fair which was cancelled due to weather.

“This is literally the first time I’ve been rained out in my entire seven years of touring,” he said. “It blows my mind.”

Rhett was scheduled to take the stage that evening, but inclement weather caused the show to eventually be called off. According to the State Journal Register, approximately an inch of rain fell between 10:00 pm and midnight and flash flood warnings were issued throughout the area.

Opening act Danielle Bradbury finished her set as scheduled.

Rhett mentions in the video that he hopes to be back to Springfield in 2019.

Anyone who purchased tickets through Ticketmaster will be issued a refund automatically. Those who purchased in person are advised to check the State Fair website for refund information.

The Illinois State Fair continues through the weekend with Brett Eldredge (Friday), Flo Ride & Ludacris (Saturday), and Brantley Gilbert (Sunday).
