As the weather warms up, more and more motorcycles will be out on the roads. With that in mind, May is Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month.

According to the most recent statistics from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, almost 4300 motorcyclists died in accidents in 2014, which has doubled from 20 years ago, and represents a significantly higher percentage of all motor-vehicle related deaths in that same time frame (5% in 1996, 13% in 2016).

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reminds all motorists to keep a sharp eye out for motorcycles, and for motorcyclists to make sure they're visible to to their fellow travelers. Share the road with everyone.

Southern Illinois University offers Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced motorcycle courses out at the Quincy Airport throughout the summer.
