I know that we haven't even celebrated Halloween yet, but soon the holiday season will be upon us. And a few department stores have already pledged to NOT be open on Thanksgiving.

It seems every year, Black Friday is creeping further and further into Thanksgiving. And with online shopping so readily available, you never really have to wait to shop for anything. And whether you prefer buying online or waiting in line, the holiday shopping season is getting closer. And according to Best Black Friday, these Quincy stores are saying NO to being open on Thanksgiving:

  • Ace Hardware
  • AT&T (Company-Owned Stores)
  • Dressbarn (majority of stores, located in the Quincy Mall)
  • Harbor Freight
  • Hobby Lobby
  • Home Depot
  • JOANN Fabric and Craft Stores
  • Lowe's
  • Mattress Firm
  • Menards
  • Petco
  • Sam's Club
  • Sprint (Corporate & Dealer Owned Stores)
  • Staples
  • TJ Maxx

The list contains 75 well known retailers that are refusing to open on Thanksgiving Day, but I narrowed it down to just stores in our area.

I have worked in retail on Thanksgiving and on Black Friday and IT'S A NIGHTMARE. So good on these stores for thinking of their employees and giving them an actual day off to spend with family and friends.

And in full disclosure, my sisters and I actually DO do our shopping as early as possible over the holiday (yes, even on Thanksgiving).
