The 8th Annual Smoke on the River BBQ Contest will be held this Friday and Saturday at Kesler Park in Quincy. The Quincy Exchange Club hosts the event with nearly $6,000 worth of prizes being awarded Saturday afternoon to the winners. To kick off the event, the Exchange Club will sponsor a Hog Roast at Kesler Park in front of The Dock from 5 to 8 p.m.
Toys for Tots program local coordinator Steve Lindsey and Marine Corp Sgt. Jonathan Schulte were recent guests of the Quincy Exchange Club. According to Mr. Lindsey, a retired USMC veteran, the Toys for Tots program got its start in Los Angeles in 1947 when a Marine Corps Major’s wife made a Raggedy Ann Doll and she asked her husband to give it to someone but there wasn’t anyone to give it to. It's almost time for the 7th annual Smoke on the River Barbecue Contest, sponsored by the Quincy Exchange Club and sanctioned by the Kansas City Barbecue Society. The event will be held at Quincy’s Kesler Park on Friday, September 6 and Saturday, September 7.
The Quincy Exchange Club just concluded the annual Gus Macker Basketball tournament for the 23rd consecutive year. That’s right, 23 straight years this city has reaped the rewards of having thousands of people come to the downtown area during the Memorial Day holiday weekend.
The Quincy Exchange Club will be hosting the Annual Gus Macker Basketball Tournament in Quincy on May 25 and 26. The time to sign up 4-person teams to play in the event has been extended.
We had Scott McNeal on the air with us this morning. Scott is the founder of Gus Macker Basketball which will be coming to Quincy for the 23rd consecutive year on May 25 and 26 at Washington Park. Gus Macker itself is celebrating it's 40th year of existence since it's founding in Lowell, Michigan in 1974. Macker basketball probably would never had happened if it weren't for Quincy's Mike Lavery.

Mayor John Spring presented his State of the City address at the Quincy Exchange Club meeting today. Before beginning the address the Mayor complemented the snow removal crews and the Quincy Police Department as well for their efforts in handling our recent snow storm.
