It's not common that the Northern Lights are visible as far south as Missouri. However, a surprise solar storm this week caused these lights to appear and they were dazzling as a new video share shows.

It's very hard to forecast where the Northern Lights will be visible. Keep that in mind as a new space forecast that shows it's very possible the Aurora Borealis might be visible over parts of Illinois Monday night due to another major solar storm.

Well, this was completely unexpected. Residents of northern Missouri were treated to a pleasant surprise when a shocking solar storm caused the Northern Lights to dance in the skies over Missouri.

There is hype growing that it's likely you'll be able to see a glorious display of the Northern Lights dazzling your eyeballs over Missouri and Illinois this Thursday night. Sorry to be a party pooper, but that doesn't appear likely to happen. At all.

There was an extraordinary display of the Aurora Borealis Thursday night as the colorful skies were visible much further south than expected. That resulted in the Northern Lights being visible even in Missouri as a new video share shows.

It would be a good idea to pay attention to the sky Tuesday night especially over northern Missouri as there's at least a chance the Northern Lights will be visible thanks to recent solar flares.

I'm always hesitant to share forecasts for the northern lights being visible over our area, because it rarely happens. However, based on a new forecast, it appears there is a very good chance you'll be able to see the aurora borealis over northern parts of Illinois and over half of Illinois late Wednesday night into Thursday morning.

I want to preface this by saying don't get your hopes way up, but there's a teeny tiny chance we'll be able to see the northern lights in the tri-state area this weekend.

If you're a fan of pretty things in the sky, pray that weather is clear this weekend. Due to recent solar flares, there's a real chance we'll see the Northern Lights viewable from our area Saturday night.
