One New Major Missouri Law to Take Place in 2026
With the new year just a few weeks away, Missouri will see several new laws take effect, one of which is likely to be the biggest change of 2026.
This past summer, Missouri Governor Kehone signed changes to Missouri’s minimum wage law. So, what does that mean if you’re a minimum wage employee? Starting January 1, 2026, the minimum wage in Missouri will increase to $15 per hour.

The new minimum wage law will also no longer be adjusted annually based on the Consumer Price Index. In other words, minimum wages will no longer automatically increase each year with the cost of living.
Additionally, a separate law passed in 2025, also set to take effect in 2026, will also include paid sick leave; however, there is a legal challenge about this particular law and in considered to be ongoing.

This change could have several effects on consumers. Prices may rise as businesses adjust to higher wages, and some employees, especially at small, locally owned businesses, might lose their jobs. However, it could also mean that people working minimum-wage jobs will be better able to support their families.
