Are you feeling dangerous today? You should be if you live in Missouri according to a newly-updated ranking based on the latest crime data.

One of the more respected publications just issued the new 2024 version of their 10 most dangerous states list and guess who made the top 10? I'll give you two guesses, but you'll only need one. US News and World Report says Missouri is the 10th most dangerous state in America - again.

Here's the methodology they used (their exact words) "U.S. News factored in both the violent crime rate and property crime rate in each state". Here are the two most convicting (no crime pun intended) statistics that led to Missouri's appearance in the worst top 10 again:

  • Violent Crime Rate: 488 per 100,000
  • Property Crime Rate: 2,340 per 100,000

The irony of Missouri's appearance in the top 10 for most dangerous states is US News and World Report praises the Show Me State for its history and fiscal stability. But, when it comes to corrections and public safety, Missouri falls down - again.

Hate to sound like a broken record, but Missouri being named a most dangerous state is almost old news these days as it's been a constant representative in this top (of should it be bottom?) 10 for danger. As long as crime continues to spiral out of control in the bigger cities like St. Louis and Kansas City, this isn't likely to change anytime soon.
