Ousted American Idol contestant Laci Kaye Booth returned to the TV singing competition's stage on Sunday night (May 19), for a performance with Idol judge Luke Bryan. Directly after delivering his performance of "Knockin' Boots," Bryan welcomed Booth to the stage to join him in a duet of "Every Breath You Take" by The Police.

During Bryan's uptempo performance of his new single, the mood onstage had been fun-loving and carefree, with a red backdrop. As Booth joined him, the vibe took a turn for the slightly more serious, with a background that faded into blue. Still, the energy was high as the pair duetted in perfect harmony on the classic track.

Booth, a Livingston, Texas, native, advanced all the way to the Top 5 in Season 17's American Idol competition. She was eliminated in the show's penultimate episode, when the five remaining contestants were whittled down to the Top 3.

Bryan will be spending his summer out on the road for his Sunset Repeat Tour. He is also working on a new album, to follow 2017's What Makes You Country.

American Idol has been renewed for an 18th season, its third on ABC, after its cancellation by Fox. Specific details for the new season have not yet been revealed.
