Officials with the Osage Nation announced recently they have purchased 28 acres of land along the shoreline of the Lake of the Ozarks.

They plan to build a casino, hotel, restaurants and an entertainment complex.

The Osage plan to invest $60 million dollars in the Lake of the Ozarks region, which would bring new jobs, tourism and revenue to mid-Missouri.

The Osage Nation is not a stranger to the casino business. They have highly successful casino operations at their home base in the Tulsa, Oklahoma area.

Tribal officials see it as a homecoming. Missouri is the ancestral home of the Osage, with as many as 200,000 members of the tribe calling Missouri home in the 1800s.

Local officials are enthusiastic about the prospect of this kind of a complex coming to the lake area.

"I am happy the Osage Nation is exploring economic development opportunities in their ancestral homeland," said State Senator Mike Bernskoetter. "It sounds like a promising opportunity to bring jobs to Missouri and I am looking forward to working with the Osage Nation as this project develops."

Since the land on which the new casino would be built is not tribal land, there are hoops that would have to jumped through before the complex becomes reality, involving state and federal agencies, including the Department of the Interior. So, there is no timetable on when you'll be able to go casino gaming at the Lake of the Ozarks.
