What you see isn't always what you get, as Lady Antebellum's new song "Pictures" proves. The country trio debuted the brand-new track early Friday morning (Aug. 9); press play above to hear it.

In "Pictures," Hillary Scott sings about a relationship that looks picture-perfect for the camera but, in reality, is crumbling. There's "[n]o photo evidence, not a single proof / Of all the hell that we went through," she sings in the bridge. "But damn, we sure looked happy in pictures."

Scott sings lead vocals on "Pictures," with bandmates Charles Kelley and Dave Haywood adding harmonies. The trio co-wrote the song with Sarah Buxton and Corey Crowder, and in the chorus, they harmonize: "Yeah, we sure looked happy in pictures / The camera doesn't show the way it hurt / No, that ain't the way I remember it happenin' / In between the flashes, it was sad, it was tragic / Yeah, we sure looked happy in pictures."

“We live in a world right now, especially with social media, where everyone’s lives can look happy and pretty. We wrote this song to reflect on the reality that things are more complex than that. As good as something might look in brief moments, there are so many layers to who people really are and what’s really going on," Scott reflects in a press release. "I love the juxtaposition of how this song’s lyrics dig in while feeling laid-back and groovy."

"Pictures" is the second song that Lady Antebellum have released from a forthcoming, not-yet-announced new album. The project will be the trio's first with Big Machine Label Group, after moving from Capitol Nashville in 2018.

"There's some layers that we wanna pull back for sure. That's one thing I will say: Sitting here talking with [Big Machine], the songs that they're gravitating towards are the ones that are a little bit meatier, and some would say riskier, to choose," Kelley said in November. "Which is refreshing to us."

Lady A's first single from their next record was "What If I Never Get Over You." They released the song in May.
