The Jacksonville Rotary Club's Second Annual“Oktoberfest” will see the return of one of last year's most popular events: The Wienie Dog Races. The"Dachshund Dash", as the event is now dubbed, will get underway at 2pm in the all new "Wienie Arena" on October 6th at the Morgan County Fairgrounds.

This year, the Jacksonville Rotary Club is planning the construction of a special "Wienie Arena" that will feature bleachers, a specially designed Wienie-specific starting gate and a "Wiener-Surround" PA System for race announcements.

Race day registration for this year's "Dachshund Dash" will start at 1:00pm with the first races
getting underway at 2:00pm on Saturday, October 6th. Registration for the race is $10 per dog. A
registration form and rules of the race can be found on the Jacksonville Rotary Club website at
www.jacksonvillerotary.org. Each dog must be accompanied by at least two humans and all humans in
a race team must have a ticket to the "Oktoberfest" event. Advance tickets for "Oktoberfest" went on
sale Friday, August 31st. They are $4 in advance and $5 at the gate (tickets are available at County
Market, Colton, Downey & Associates Insurance or from any Rotarian).

The "Dachshund Dash" is for Amateur Class racers only. No professional or circuit racers will be
allowed to compete and there is no wagering at the event. Both miniature and standard class
dachshunds are invited to compete and all dogs should be dachshunds...or mostly dachshunds.

Dachshunds, and their race teams, are invited to come early, and then stay around after the race
to enjoy the festivities. Food sales, music and registration for the Washers Tournament all get
underway at 11:00am. This year's food menu will again feature the very popular German themed
specialties. A full meal of Brats, Secret Recipe Sauerkraut and potatoes will be available. The official
“Wilkommen” ceremony and Tapping of the Kegs will take place at noon on the Jacksonville Savings
Bank Main Stage.

The Oktoberfest was designed to be a major annual fundraiser for the Jacksonville Rotary Club and it has proven to be a huge success.
