Out Like a Lion? Storms with Big Hail May Pound Missouri Sunday

The old saying about March in Missouri "in like a lamb and out like a lion" may very well come true after all based on new forecasts from meteorologists.

There's a new bulletin from the Storm Prediction Center from NOAA that puts Missouri right in the middle of a region which is likely to see severe storms on Sunday. This is the marginal risk map they just shared.

Their internal discussion from the Storm Prediction Center says "potentially strong thunderstorm development during the day and into the overnight period" throughout Missouri and also most of Illinois.

The National Weather Service agrees, but at this point it's a "maybe". They add a caveat. Without getting too technical, they mention a "cap inversion" which might limit storm development. My wife, the meteorologist, understands what they're talking about. Me? Not so much. The layman's explanation she gave me was this. IF storms can overcome atmospheric limitations, they will be severe and likely include big hail.

The bottom line is know that if you're anywhere in Missouri this weekend, you have a chance at seeing thunderstorms and they may be severe. Keep an eye on the sky and be ready if warnings are issued. We're in the fun time of the year when thunderstorms can and do happen frequently and sometimes they can put a dent in your home and/or vehicle.

Watch out for big hail possibilities at the end of March in Missouri. Out like a lion may very well describe it.
