Why You Can’t Buy an Apple Watch in Missouri After Christmas
If you've ever wanted an Apple Watch in Missouri, you better hope that one of two things is true. Either #1 you already have one or #2 you get one for Christmas because after Christmas Day, sales will be banned.
I had waited to share this because Apple was appealing the case in court hoping to delay a ban on its Apple Watch Series 9 and its Apple Watch Ultra 2. Sadly (for Apple), NBC Los Angeles just reported that the court has refused to delay the ban on its two most popular watch lines.
So why are these two newest Apple Watch series banned in Missouri and other states, too?
The Verge is reporting that the ban is a direct result of a patent dispute with medical device maker Masimo. They contend that Apple's newest watch's blood oxygen sensor violates its patent. As a result, the International Trade Commission is ordering Apple to freeze sales on these Apple Watch series until a ruling is issued.
The ban on Apple Watch Series 9 and Ultra 2's goes into affect after 3pm Thursday, December 21 and you the last delivery date is December 24, 2023.
What will Apple do?
The immediate cause and effect is that Apple will need to shift to previous Apple Watch models to sell. The possible fix could be software-related, but there's no certainty that would cause the patent that's contended to not be violated.
The bottom line is if you want and/or need a new Apple Watch, better hope it's under your tree already by Christmas Day.
