St. Louis Zoo Will Soon Say Tearful Goodbye to Polar Bear
It's hard to say goodbye and that's true even for polar bears. The St. Louis Zoo has announced that one of their twin polar bear brothers is about to leave for another destination soon.
This is Kallik and his twin brother Kallu in the St. Louis Zoo when they arrived in March of this year
The St. Louis Zoo just announced today on social media that these twins will soon be separated, but for a good reason.
Even though it's sad to think of brothers being separated, the St. Louis Zoo explains that male polar bears become very independent when they reach the age of these twins. They believe it will be for the benefit of both to live separately which is why Kallik is destined to be sent to a zoo in Oregon late this Fall. I was a bit surprised to see this announcement today since these twin polar bear brothers have only been at the St. Louis Zoo since March of this year.
The St. Louis Zoo has always been one of my family's favorite destinations. My wife and I had our first date there where I was bitten by a duck, but that's a story for a different day. We always enjoyed the bear enclosures and I have no doubt the conservation experts at the St. Louis Zoo know what they're doing for these polar bear brothers.
