It never fails to amaze me how many who have never lived or even visited Missouri think they understand my birth state. I see stereotypes shared all the time by outsiders and there are 10 myths that they get completely wrong.

Missouri, like any other state, has its share of challenges and things we can and should improve. However, overall I think the state gets a bad reputation partly because of false narratives that get shared about it. Let's clear some fake stereotypes up.

I understand why some of these falsehoods about Missouri get spread. On the surface some of them "feel" like they're true. One of the most common stereotypes is how dangerous the St. Louis area is. I have spent so many hours of my life in the big city and have never really felt threatened. I also have friends and family that live in St. Louis and they love their lives. It's just unfortunate that many choose to believe the national narratives without looking below the surface to see what the truth about Missouri really is.
