With Missouri's rich history, there have been some incredible discoveries over the years, but this might be one of the most unique of them all. A seed bag dating back centuries was apparently found in the Missouri Ozarks and there's new research to determine its exact origins.

I can say that this is one of the most interesting and entertaining reads I've found on the Missouri sub-Reddit in years. The short version is this seed bag was discovered in Barry County, Missouri back in the 1960's. It's been estimated to be old enough to pre-date Native American's contact with the Europeans. This seed bag find is considered to be extremely rare.

Numerous stone tools and seeds were found inside. Experts that examined the tools estimate them to be between 5000 BC and 1000AD, but carbon dating being done will help zero in on a more exact time period. The original poster said that they made the decision to donate the seed bag and its contents to the University of Arkansas in the care of the Osage Tribe which handles many Native American artifacts. The Arkansas Archeological Survey is also involved in documenting and verifying this find, too. It's truly an incredible piece of nearly-ancient history that was found by a river in Missouri.
