Iconic Retailer Makes Illinois Comeback Twice This Month
Don't call it a comeback, but that's what it feels like. While some brick and mortar retail stores are closing due to economic struggles, there is one that is still opening stores and that includes two locations in Illinois this month alone.
How can a retail store thrive in 2025?
One retailer has found success in offering overstock, closeouts and items from other stores that have gone out of business. They are Marshalls and their site shows 2 grand openings in Illinois in August 2025.
Downers Grove, Illinois - 1548 Butterfield Rd - former Bed, Bath & Beyond location - Open now
Jacksonville, Illinois - 1964 West Morton Ave - former Shopko building - Opening August 14, 2025
It's really brilliant when you think about it. Marshalls is taking over vacant buildings that are now empty from former retailers who have either gone bankrupt and/or are desperate to have someone else take over their previous leases. Combine that with items that are discounted due to overstocks and you have the recipe for potential retail success. The fact that many families are struggling and looking for bargains only makes this comeback by Marshalls a serendipitous moment where supply and demand (and cost) just might allow them success that has escaped other businesses. Let's hope these 2 new Illinois locations can make a successful go of it.
