Last Month, 1 Missouri County Recorded More than 2,600 Flu Cases
Think flu season is over? Think again. One Missouri county just reported that during the last month alone, they had more than 2,000 cases of the sickness reported.
The report originated from News Press Now. It's based on numbers released by Boone County, Missouri to the Centers for Disease Control. They say that between the first of March and the beginning of April, there were more than 2,600 cases of the flu.
Of those more than 2,600 cases, more than 2,300 were categorized as Influenza A which is troubling.
Why did the flu spread so fast in Boone County, Missouri?
The CDC says the following about Influenza type A:
Influenza A viruses are the only influenza viruses known to cause flu pandemics
They go onto explain with a graphic how these cases have many different sub-types which makes them hard to pin down to what types of flu an area is really dealing with.
While flu season is normally considered to be from late fall through winter, in 2023 it's extended into Spring. Let's hope all of the outdoor activity during late Spring and Summer lessens that horrible spread of the flu in Missouri.
