A Missouri woman was trying to sell their family home when she learned something shocking. Someone else had already sold it. The home they lived in had been sold right out from under them.

I first saw WHNT share the story of Linda Peak. The home in question was located at 8303 Brooklyn Avenue in Kansas City, Missouri. When Linda and her family began the process of trying to sell the home, she found out that someone had created a false deed and sold it already.

Deeds.com says that false deeds are sadly very common. They say "a signer may pose as the property owner and sign the deed in front of a notary. Others may use a completely made-up name or identify themselves as the owner's personal representative."

Fox 4 in Kansas City reported that Linda Peak and her family had to go to court to prove the home really belonged to them while the alleged thief was still being sought.

You'd think that it would be impossible to steal someone's home, but it does sadly happen much more often than you think.
