Missouri Could See a Major Winter Storm Next Weekend
While I would not recommend changing any plans at this point, you would be wise to pay attention to what computer models show is possible next weekend as a major winter storm system could be targeting Missouri.
The possibility of winter weather impacting Missouri first ended up on my radar (no weather pun intended) when Cedar Valley Storm Chasing showed a system that computer models say could begin dropping any variety of winter weather starting next Saturday, January 24, 2026.
Let me emphasize that these are only computer models showing what is possible and not necessarily likely for next Saturday, January 24, 2026. I checked the GFS model on Pivotal Weather this morning and it still shows some type of winter precipitation over Missouri. The blue on the map represents snow while the red could be ice or sleet and the green is rain.
Ryan Hall also has taken notice of the winter system that may be impacting the Midwest late this coming week.
He noticed that the current GFS model run shows much of Missouri seeing snowfall early on Saturday, January 24, 2026.
The storm chasing group shared an animated map showing how this system might (key word) develop January 24 and 25, 2026.
Once again, these are only model runs and will change as new and more updated data is available. I've seen more recent runs that show the winter system taking a more southerly track. Expect this to change as the week goes on. I'm hopeful that this system will not become reality, but you need to know that it's at least possible that travel next weekend in Missouri might be iffy. Don't base any decisions on computer weather models. You should only follow National Weather Service forecasts and outlooks for serious travel adjustments. Just be aware that winter may be returning to Missouri in the next week with a vengeance. Maybe.
