Illinois Bracing for a Double Whammy of Snow on Monday
If you thought weather this weekend in Illinois was fun, you'll also enjoy the start of this coming week as the state is now almost certain to get a double whammy of snow.
Many areas in Illinois received anywhere from between 4 and 12 inches of snow from the storm system that blasted the state Saturday. That was just the first round in a quick one-two punch of winter weather systems as another is right on the heels of the first one with impacts to begin Monday afternoon, December 1, 2025.
What does the National Weather Service in Illinois say to expect?
The meteorologists expect much of Illinois to get anywhere from 2 to 4 inches of new snow starting Monday afternoon with the greatest travel impacts to be between 1p and 10pm Monday. This second round of snow is expected to be lighter and drier than the first round of snow that hit Illinois Saturday.
The National Weather Service in Chicago offered this advisory about Monday travel during the afternoon commute. While there is not expected to be nearly the total accumulation of the first storm on Saturday, the snow that's coming Monday will likely impact roads that are still recovering from the weekend storm.
Here's the real issue to be aware of. The weekend snow was very wet and slushy. The drop in temperatures will mean that any snow from the weekend that didn't completely clear off will likely result in many icy places which will be under whatever snow falls on Monday. That could mean the most hazardous driving of the week could be Monday afternoon. Depending on the timing of the snow, visibility may not be great during the late Monday afternoon commute either.
