The Illinois State Police just completed an enforcement detail focusing on commercial vehicles on interstates in the Land of Lincoln and the result was 61 vehicles being taken out of service.

I first saw trucking industry site CDL Life mention this crackdown in Illinois focusing on I-70 and I-55. I was able to confirm from a share directly from Illinois State Police Troop 9 on social media.

In case you can't read their status update, it said "The Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Bureau conducted it’s Southern Illinois Hazardous Materials Detail from June 30th – July 1st on I-55, I-70, and surrounding areas in Troops 8 and 9 to aggressively enforce Illinois laws and Federal Motor Carrier Safety regulations relating to the safe transportation of hazardous materials. The detail resulted in 488 total Inspections (195 involving hazardous materials), with 584 Federal Regulation Violations, 85 Illinois Vehicle Code Violations, 38 Driver Out-of-Services, and 61 Vehicle Out-of-Services."

I saw a comment from one trucker who was taken out of service and he said he was caught with a brake light issue, but he was impressed with the friendliness of the troopers involved in this crackdown. That's a big compliment from a guy who's paycheck was likely impacted by having a vehicle taken off the road. Better safe than sorry, they say.
