This intriguing transplant statistic was shared by Stacker. They counted the number of people who moved from other states to Missouri. #4 on that list is (*drum roll*) California. Say what?

According to their numbers, in just one recent calendar year, 7,970 Californians decided "hey, I'd prefer to be a Missourian".

So why is it alarming that a large number of California people are moving to Missouri?

The truth is it isn't. I've heard MANY who fear that some west coast folks are gonna come to Missouri to "change things". In my experience, the opposite is true. I have been fortunate to cross paths with a lot of present and former California people in my life and the many that have moved elsewhere did so because they didn't like what was happening in California and wanted to get away.

What other states moved to Missouri more than Californians?

According to the Stacker article, Kansas, Illinois and Texas have a higher relocation rate to Missouri than even California.

Many see statistics like this and immediately fear that their "Midwestern values" are at risk. Give these relocating people a chance and I think you'll be pleasantly surprised at how awesome they are.

Can't we all just get along?
