Illinois Ranked One of the Rudest States in America
People can be rude sometimes. You never really know if that's just their personality or if they're simply having a bad day. But according to a new list, Illinois ranks among the top ten rudest states in the country.
It's really not that hard to hold a door open or say “thank you,” but apparently, for some people, those small acts of kindness aren't so easy. Zippia put together a list ranking the rudest states in America, and Illinois landed at number nine.
Why Illinois Ranked So High for Rudeness
They based the rankings on several factors, including the percentage of rude drivers, average tip left for servers, the amount of cursing directed at customer service agents, and how rude people from other states think each state is.

Is Chicago to Blame for the Bad Reputation?
For Illinois, the average tip percentage is 16.4%, rude drivers make up 3.1% of motorists, and 22% said they think Illinois residents are rude. I like to think all of that is mostly centered around Chicago—but who knows?

How Other States Compare
Missouri ranks much lower on the list, coming in at number 30. And if you’re planning a trip, you might want to steer clear of Rhode Island, it was named the rudest state of them all.
Maybe it's because the population is so small that when visitors come through, they don’t get the warmest welcome. I’m not sure—I’ve never been to Rhode Island. But after reading this, I just might avoid it altogether.
