While a story like this is undoubtedly tragic at any time, it hurts even more being just a few days from Christmas.

Elizabeth Fugate, her boyfriend, and four children stayed at a relative’s house on Monday night after their furnace quit working. When they returned to their home in rural Ralls County (just south of Hannibal) on Tuesday, they discovered that the mobile home had caught fire and burned to the ground.

In just one night, they lost everything (including new Christmas presents for the kids).

The family is receiving assistance from the Red Cross, but you too can assist in giving them a Merry Christmas.

A friend has set up a donation site on youcaring.com with an initial goal of $8,000. In addition, a drop-off site has been set up at the Hardee’s restaurant on MM in Hannibal.
