Hannibal, Quincy City Councils Meet Tuesday Night

Both the Hannibal and Quincy city councils met in regular session Tuesday. It was the regular first Tuesday meeting night for Hannibal, while Quincy's regular Monday night meeting was postponed because of the Memorial Day holiday.

Pursuit of improvements in Hannibal’s downtown and riverfront was a topic of conversation at Tuesday night’s Hannibal City Council meeting.

The council took the first step in pursuit of an economic development grant.

City Manager Lisa Peck told the council the grant money could be used for projects ranging from downtown infrastructure to the North Street stormwater culvert to an additional river dock.

With one councilman absent, the council voted 3-3 to support an environmental study on a proposed Highway 61 Hannibal bypass.

A Quincy city alderman submitted his resignation Tuesday night.

The city council accepted the resignation of Third Ward Alderman Jason Finney effective immediately.

Finney and his family are moving out of the Third Ward.

In other business, the council heard the first reading of an ordinance that would annex 14 homes on North 18th, Koch’s Lane and Highland Lane into the city. The homes are currently surrounded by the city.

And, the council tabled a request by the Plan Commission to approve a special permit for a coffee shop to open at 7th and Broadway.
