Beginning Tuesday, the Hannibal Public Schools will be closed until April 14th.

In a letter to parents and the community, Superintendent Susan Johnson said that after meeting with community leaders, the proactive decision was made to shut down all the schools in the Hannibal district through mid-April.

The closure includes all school activities, athletic and extracurricular practices and competitions.

Johnson cites advice of health professionals for the length of the closure, to slow the spread of the coronavirus.

Johnson says district staff will continue to ensure students have access to instructional resources, food and social and emotional support.

Also, the deep cleaning and sanitation process that began in all district buildings last week will continue.
