The Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade is a holiday tradition. 2014 will mark the 88th anniversary of the parade, which began in 1924 with only about a dozen elements! Here are a few fun facts about this year's parade, which will air at 9 a.m. on NBC (WGEM) Thanksgiving Day, November 27.

  • The Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade will feature over 8,000 participants in 2014.
  • The 2014 Parade’s line-up features 16 giant character balloons; 33 novelty/ornament balloons, balloonicles, balloonheads and trycaloons; 27 floats; 1,300 cheerleaders and dancers; 1000 clowns; 12 marching bands; and a host of celebrity performers.
  • Just a few of the celebrities appearing include: Nick Jonas, Lucy Hale, KISS, Cole Swindell, Meghan Trainor and The Muppets.
  • The 2014 Parade will feature six new character balloons, the biggest class of new balloons in its history: Paddington the bear; Pikachu from Pokemon; the Pillsbury Doughboy; the Red Mighty Morphin Power Ranger; the lava spewing Skylanders Eruptor; and Thomas the Tank Engine.
  • The Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade has its own App, which gives fans the chance to interact with the famed march, learn more about the elements and share content with their friends.

NBC reports that 3.5 million spectators are expected to watch the parade live, and anticipates a viewing audience of 50 million people.
