Darius Rucker doesn't believe in having much downtime: The South Carolina native released his most recent new album, Southern Style, in 2015, and he's already hard at work on his next set of tunes.

"We’re working on it. We're always writing for the next record," Rucker tells The Boot. "I will take a break sometime, but not right now; I don’t feel like it right now. I’m just having fun putting out records and touring, so it’s working."

As with his previous solo projects, Rucker says that he won't know what the disc will sound like until he starts compiling the songs.

"I’m just really starting to write songs. I'm always trying to find myself little holes where I can do some songwriting," he continues. "I’ve just started writing, so as soon as it starts coming together, I’ll let you know."

Rucker has seen plenty of changes in country music since his debut record, Learn to Live, was released in 2008. In 2016, the genre seems poised for yet another change, thanks in part to the rise of Chris Stapleton, but Rucker says that he remains focused on his own style of music.

"I’m just gonna make the record I’m gonna make and hopefully have a little more success before my time’s up," he muses. "I’m happy for Chris. We’ve written a couple of my No. 1s together, and I love him; I think his record is amazing. I hope [his success] affects me in a positive way."

And despite his apparent aversion to taking time off, Rucker did take advantage of some down time over the holidays, which he spent with his family in Charleston, S.C., before beginning the new year.

"I love Christmas. I love the music ... I love everything about Christmas," he admits. "I’m a big fan."
