Every year a report comes out from the American Farm Bureau Federation that calculates the average cost of a Thanksgiving meal. Usually the cost is figured for enough food to feed ten people. I've always thought that was an awfully low number of guests to account for. At most Thanksgiving get-togethers I've attended, there are usually at least ten people just waiting in line for the bathroom!

According to this year's report, the average cost of a Thanksgiving dinner for ten people is $49.04, which is 44 cents less than last year. The last time the price of a Thanksgiving dinner dropped was in 2009.

The AFBF survey shopping list includes turkey, bread stuffing, sweet potatoes, rolls with butter, peas, cranberries, a relish tray of carrots and celery, pumpkin pie with whipped cream, and beverages of coffee and milk, all in quantities sufficient to serve a family of 10. There is also plenty for leftovers." - fb.org
