I was searching for videos about Hannibal on YouTube, and came across something that I thought was pretty interesting. This video, called 'USA Hannibal MO 1981' shows a good bit of Hannibal from over 30 years ago.

One of the reason I find this video fascinating is the rarity of such footage. It really wasn't that long ago that people were walking around without high-definition cameras built into their phones. Just think, back in the Dark Ages 80s, someone actually had to lug around special equipment to make a movie like this, using film that had to be developed and everything. There's no sound, because (presumably) that would have been a whole other set of issues to deal with.

Another thing cool about this video is the opportunity it gives us to see just how much of downtown Hannibal is exactly the same as it was in 1981, and how much of it has changed. There's even footage of things that I have absolutely no recollection of. 1981 happens to be the year I was born, so looking at this video was of particular interest for me.

I'm not sure who Wolfgang Gegusch (the YouTube user that uploaded the video) is, his "about" page on YouTube is empty, and unfortunately there's no description of 'USA Hannibal MO 1981' other than the title. I will send him a message and see if I can track down some background on the video. Whoever he is, I'm grateful he decided to share 'USA Hannibal MO 1981' with the world. It's one of the cooler things I've seen today.
