Who doesn't love just walking in a city and seeing the sights of the city or town you are in? Well, several cities in Illinois are considered some of the best walkable places in the state, and Chicago is not number one.

Redfin looked at several factors to get their list of walkable cities. Factors included walking scores and housing prices (people walking to and from home I would assume) from all of that they decided that Oak Park is one of the best walking cities in the Land of Lincoln. They say,

The popular Chicago suburb boasts several pedestrian-friendly neighborhoods like Downtown Oak Park and Frank Lloyd Wright Historic District.

Ok, so it is a suburb of Chicago, but it's not Chicago, the city comes in at number 2 on the list followed by:

  • Evanston
  • Cicero
  • Berwyn
  • Elmwood Park
  • Skokie
  • Melrose Park
  • Niles
  • Evergreen Park

My question is where's Galena and Quincy on that list? I feel like both of these cities are walkable and have several parks to enjoy if people don't want to walk in the street. Not sure I agree with this list, in fact, I really don't agree with this list. Yes, Chicago and the suburbs are great places to go for a walk and enjoy the atmosphere, but Hello, Illinois is more then Chicago and the surrounding suburbs.

There are plenty of places to visit and enjoy a good hike. I would like to see a list that focuses on the smaller towns like Quincy and Galena and see where they will fall on a list of the best walkable towns.
